Why Employees Can't Afford To Ignore Grief

Depression accounts for nearly $12 billion in lost work days each year.

Depression is the leading illness that contributes to lost work days:

  • Sorrow, empty or anxious
  • Headaches, pain or digestive disorders
  • Sleepiness or insomnia
  • Reduced appetite or overeating
  • Guilt, hopelessness

Lost profits
Reduced productivity costs employers more than $11 billion per year.

Job stress from excessive workload demands and conflicting expectations cause friction between managers and employees.

Stress on the job What is job stress?
Harmful physical and emotional responses when job requirements don't match capabilities, resources or needs of the work. Leads to poor health or even injuries.

Job stress is becoming the most prevalent reason for worker disability. In fact, 40% of worker turnover is due to job stress. Xerox estimates around $1.5 milion to replace a top executive. For most employees, it costs approximately 1/3 of their annual salary.
